More Information Re Jessica Simpson’s Dolly Parton Oops

Here’s more information about what happened to Jessica Simpson on stage while singing Nine to Five for Dolly Parton and loads of other stars:

Two years ago, Ashlee Simpson was caught lip syncing during her performance on Saturday Night Live, causing an extremely embarrassing moment and resulting in a flurry of headlines that mocked the young singer. Now her older sister, Jessica Simpson has had an equally embarrassing moment during a Dolly Parton tribute at the Kennedy Center Honors.

Jessica Simpson, 26, took to the stage to perform one of Dolly Parton’s classic hits,"Nine to Five (9 to 5), but in the middle of the performance, during which Simpson relied heavily on cue cards, Jessica flubbed a line from the song, causing her to lose her composure. After her performance, Jessica Simpson addressed Dolly Parton, who was in the audience sitting next to President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura Bush. E Online quoted Simpson’s apology, in which she said, "Dolly, you make me so nervous, I can’t even sing the words right." With that, the audience fell into a hushed silence, with no applause to be heard.

The Washington Post reports that Jessica Simpson was nervous from the get-go, as Simpson was "weeping while the video tribute to Parton played and pacing anxiously during performances by Carrie Underwood, Kenny Rogers, Alison Krauss and Shania Twain."

Dolly Parton, one of five honorees at the event, had different reactions to the performances. Reuters reported that Parton "looked surprised and thrilled" at the performances from Kenny Rogers and Carrie Underwood, but "appeared to be significantly less impressed by Jessica Simpson’s rendition of Nine to Five".

Simpson’s representative, Cindi Berger was in damage control mode immediately after the performance. Berger told USA Today that Simpson "was overcome with emotion." Berger added that Simpson "wanted the song to be perfect and she was upset with herself when it wasn’t." Berger said that "Jessica has adored Dolly for her whole life."

Thanks to the magic of tape delay, Jessica Simpson will not be embarassed in front of the whole world. CBS plans to air the Dolly Parton tribute on December 26 at 9 p.m., but due to the delay, Jessica Simpson’s gaffe will be erased. Instead, Simpson re-performed "Nine to Five" and CBS will edit her new performance into the special. Dolly Parton, rather than sitting in front of the stage, was waiting backstage as Jessica Simpson attempted the song again. After the performance, Dolly Parton came out and greeted Jessica Simpson with a hug.

Jessica Simpson’s Kennedy Center Honors flub isn’t the first time a performance has been re-taped for the show. Last year’s Kennedy Center Honors taping saw Beyonce experience technical difficulties with her microphone, and the sexy singer redid her Tina Turner tribute. This year’s Kennedy Center Honors paid tribute to five honorees" Dolly Parton, filmmaker Steven Spielberg, Motown legend Smokey Robinson, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and conductor Zubin Mehta.

Despite releasing two albums, "Sweet Kisses" and "Irresistible, Jessica Simpson truly ascended to fame after she married singer Nick Lachey and starred in an MTV reality series Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica. Around the same time, Simpson released her album "In This Skin", with a limited amount of success. Jessica Simpson made her film debut in The Dukes of Hazzard, which debuted at #1 at the U.S. box office. Jessica divorced Nick Lachey in June 2006. Simpson released a new album, "A Public Affair" in 2006, which has sold half a million copies in the US.
