Will Prince William and Kate Middleton Get Engaged Soon?

not dashing Prince William and his girlfriend Kate Middleton will become engaged soon. Ever since the couple, or particularly bikini-clad Kate, was seen vacationing in Ibiza earlier this year, bookies (aka gambling firms) have lowered the odds that the royal engagement will happen by the end of the year. Woolworths, a British retailer, has even jumped the gun and is preparing a set of commemorative items “just in case”.

Of course, we won’t be getting any comment from the royal establishment about whether or not these speculations have any meat on them. So royal watchers are left waiting…. And, in my humble opinion, that’s probably what we’ll have to do for a long while.

Yes, I don’t think we’ll see an engagement between Wills and Kate soon. At least, not within the year. And probably not even next year.

Why? Here are my reasons:

1. They’re young. Both are 24 years old. From the look of things, they’re both enjoying their status in life. Besides, Prince William has been known to say that he has no plans of getting married until he’s at least 28.

2. They still have much to do as an unmarried young man and woman. Prince William is just about to finish his training in Sandhurst, and is mostly likely to face an increasing array of royal responsibilities designated to him by The Queen. Kate has been the subject of talk regarding her lack of employment, and IMO is still trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life. She tried to launch a clothing line, and given the opportunity, might still be interested in pursuing such a career.

3. There is no real reason for them to get married sooner rather than later. The British royal family has one king-in-waiting in Prince Charles, and there is no pressing need for anyone to produce the next heir after William.

4. Prince William doesn’t seem the type to recklessly plunge into marriage, regardless of how much he loves Kate. He looks level-headed enough (and stubborn, from what I’ve read) to take matters into his own hands at his own time.

5. Here’s a quote from The Royalist, regarding the couple’s reaction to the Woolworths souvenirs:

…the couple are said to have been highly amused by the recent publicity surrounding Woolworths’ plans for a range of royal wedding commemoratives, an insider saying: “Kate and William have had hysterics over the wedding china story and they find it a great source of amusement that everyone is talking about it.”

6. And, finally, one from the Telegraph:

A friend of Wills’s 24-year-old girlfriend informs Mandrake that the couple, who have been together since they met at St Andrews University, will not be getting married in the near future.

“There will be no wedding next year,” her chum asserts confidently. “Kate does not want to get married until she feels ready to have children and she is in no rush. She is acutely aware of the positions of Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, who both felt under huge pressure to have babies as soon as they married. Kate and William are very happy as they are.”

So, there. I do hope that Wills and Kate prove to be right for each other and eventually tie the knot. But meanwhile I’m settling down for a long period of royal-watching. If I’m proven wrong, I’ll be as happy as anyone and will be sure to follow the engagement story here at Merry Royals.

Recent Royal Whereabouts (11-22-06)

Our merry royals have been sighted around the globe on various official and personal visits, as is their wont. Here’s a sampling:

* Britain’s Prince Harry arrived in South Africa to celebrate with his girlfriend Chelsy Davy after she finished her degree studies. (Source with photo). The couple and their friends were then spotted in Namibia on a canoeing and camping trip. (Read the details at the Daily Mail.)

* Also in South Africa is Kate Middleton, sans her boyfriend Prince William. Kate is there with friends to celebrate the 21st birthday of Sir Richard Branson’s son, Sam Branson. (Source)

* Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary are in Tasmania, Australia with their son 13-month old Prince Christian. The royal family is on a private holiday in Mary’s hometown, their first trip to Australia since Christian was born. (Source). Don’t expect many photos of this trip as the royal couple are looking to spend time with Mary’s family privately.

* Britain’s Princess Anne is in Bahrain on an official visit lasting a few days (photo). She had a meeting with Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa at Safriya Palace. She also met the King’s wife and Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Women, Her Highness Shaikha Sabika bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa and the King’s son, Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. (Source)

The Residences of Prince Charles

How many houses does Prince Charles have and what are they used for? Here’s a summary of his royal residences:

Clarence House

Located in Central London. It is the official residence of The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, and Princes William and Harry. It is a working residence where The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall receive official guests, and host seminars, lunches, receptions and dinners.

Highgrove

Located in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. It is the family home of The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Princes William and Harry. Prince Charles hosts many briefings and receptions here, and gives tours of his garden to local charities and gardening groups.

Birkhall

Located in Balmoral Estate, Royal Deeside, Scotland. It is the private residence of The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall in Scotland. The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, as they are known when in Scotland, usually spend their summer holiday here. They enjoy fishing and walking in the countryside, and often have engagements in the local area.

A Farmhouse in Wales

In addition to these residences, it was announced today that Prince Charles is buying his first home in Wales.

The three-bedroom farmhouse at Llwynywormwood, Myddfai, near Llandovery, will be used by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall during their visits to the nation and, surprisingly, may even be let out to holidaymakers in their absence.

The farmhouse is surrounded by about 192 acres of land, 150 acres of which is grazing and parkland and about 40 acres of woodland. The estate includes a walled garden and the remains of a lake. Some work is expected to be done on the property before it is ready for the royal couple’s use.

Lindsay gets upset at party

According to the Mirror, Lindsay Lohan had a bit of a breakdown a the Donna Karan party in London:

A WILD night out for Lindsay Lohan may have begun with tears and tantrums, but she saved the Best for last.

The troubled Hollywood starlet, 20, began her Thursday night bender at 9.30pm with a hissy fit at a party thrown by designer Donna Karan - bursting into tears because there was no VIP room.

A champagne-sipping mole at the Donna Karan, New Bond Street, store tells us: "Lindsay was inconsolable within just five minutes of arriving. She was taken to a sofa upstairs and surrounded by bodyguards - but didn’t like it that guests kept taking a peek at her.

"So she let rip at organisers to create a VIP section and couldn’t stop the tears from coming. After Donna Karan saw how upset she was, she created a make-shift VIP section for her."

But Li-Lo had soon had enough - and headed off to Nobu restaurant and then Prince William’s favourite Boujis club in South Kensington, just after 1am.

A clubber said: "Lindsay was with a party organiser and pals, but was acting strange, running to and from the loos.

"Perhaps it was something she ate."

Having not found her prince at Boujis, she headed of to swanky Soho club Kabaret’s Prophecy, where she, er, kissed a frog - Calum Best.

Lindsay jealous of Keira?

Lindsay Lohan apparently snubbed Keira Knightly in London at a club, being at first very concerned the other starlet was going to upstage her:

Lindsay Lohan reportedly snubbed Keira Knightley at a party thrown in the former’s honour at the Paper Club in London on Friday night.

A source told the Sunday Mirror that Lindsay was livid when she found out her future The Best Time of Our Lives co-star was going to attend and twice called Keira’s assistants to check what Keira would be wearing to the event: “She was adamant she wasn’t going to be upstaged.”

Keira was already in the club when Lindsay arrived and the source added: Once inside, Lindsay sent a text, insisting Keira come to her. Keira went over - but was then kept waiting as her ‘rival’ chatted to pals.”

Lindsay finally turned to Keira to chat and Keira was overheard telling the starlet: “Hi. It’s great to finally meet you. I’m really excited about working with you on our film next year.”

Lindsay replied with a less than enthusiastic “Oh yeah, great” then turned back to her other friends. - Fametastic

Jessica Simpson’s Hair Guy Does Katie Holmes’ Wedding Do

Who would have guessed that Jessica Simpson’s hair guy Ken Paves would be invited to Italy to do Katie Holmes’ hair for her wedding to Tom Cruise? Here’s a picture of him arriving:

Jessica Simpson is willing to share. According to a report from Life & Style weekly the TomKat wedding will have a flavor of Jessica as the fabulous Katie Holmes has tabbed Ken Paves as the wedding stylist.

The weekly entertainment magazine reports that Ken Paves has edged out famed stylist Oscar Blandi to do Katie’s hair for her Nov. 18 wedding to Tom Cruise.

According to an exclusive report from the magazine, Ken landed yesterday in Rome, reporting for TomKat wedding duty, while Oscar is fully booked for appointments this weekend and has no travel plans, one insider tells Life & Style.

Oscar did Katie’s hair for about 12 years, and then she introduced him to Tom and he did Tom’s hair on Mission Impossible III, says an insider close to Blandi.

"So there were all of these reports that he was doing her hair for the wedding, but he’s not," the insider says.

"He’s so bummed because he doesn’t know what to tell people."

He’s not mad; he’s disappointed, the item claims.

"He always did Katie’s hair. And for the last couple of years, he’s done Tom’s. He thought he was a sure thing to do this wedding. But he never got the call."

Jessica Simpson and John Mayer On Again?

Wow, just when I thought I knew what was going on, Jessica Simpson surprises us again. Rumors have been flying all over the place lately about John Mayer and Jessica Simpson dating. Are the rumors true? Apparently they went on a date last Saturday and were caught on camera. Here are some fuzzy pictures of their "date":


Personally I don’t believe this rumor. I’ve gone out to eat with my male friends and it’s NOT a date at all. And also I don’t think John is good for Jessica. I saw him at a live taping of Oprah last week and he seemed like a big jerk. He was bragging about spending his money on cars and watches and then talked about how he wanted to drop out of school when he was 13. Great…tell kids to drop out of school. Smart!

After a false start, Jessica Simpson and John Mayer are giving dating a try again. The couple met up for an hour-long lunch at Paradise Cove Beach Café in Malibu, California, on November 12.

“She didn’t eat much,” a witness says. “She drank double vodka cranberries. When they got up, Jessica was rubbing his back. You could definitely tell they were on a date.” Mayer left a $40 tip on the $100 bill.

Is it for real this time? Even Simpson, 26, and Mayer, 29, aren’t sure yet.

“She’s taking her time with it,” a Simpson pal says.

Adds a Mayer source, “It’s a flirtation. I wouldn’t call it full-on dating, but there is a fondness. He doesn’t like the attention, but he likes her. He wants to avoid the public scrutiny of last time.”

What’s up next for the couple? Separate Thanksgiving holidays with family (hers in Texas, his in Connecticut). Then, he’ll spend downtime in NYC songwriting, while she heads to Louisiana to film the Luke Wilson comedy Blonde Ambition. Could an on-set visit be next?

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Cruise

Holmes wore an off-the-shoulder Armani gown with a train in ivory silk cadis adorned in Valenciennes lace and Swarovski beaded crystal embroidery. Holmes also had an ivory tulle floor-length veil and ivory silk shoes. Armani, which outfitted the entire wedding, supplied Katie’s bouquet of calla lilies, as well as a champagne evening gown, which she wore at the reception.

Cruise wore a navy blue Armani tuxedo.

As strange as I think Cruise has become over recent years, I do have to admit they make a striking bride and groom.

I do wish them the best of luck.

With all the vultures hovering around waiting on any word of TomKat emerging, there’s at least one in the blogosphere that thinks they should be given a break. Can’t say I’m offering up that much niceness - I think Cruise began the whole “craziness” of this wedding when he jumped on Oprah’s couch.

Citizenship Offer to TomKat Withdrawn

Newlyweds Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have left residents and officials of Bracciano, Italy, unimpressed, after they refused to publicly thank the town for the chaos their wedding had caused.

The town government was forced to draft in extra police and rent public toilets to cope with the huge influx of visitors and media ahead of the actors wedding at the town’s Castello Odescalchi Castle.

Bracciano Mayor Patrizia Riccioni had planned to bestow upon the couple, an honorary citizenship of the town, but has changed her mind after the pair avoided the media and locals.

Riccioni says, “Honorary citizenship? They do not deserve it. “A whole town has sacrificed itself for them, volunteers worked all day, traffic was closed off.. They (Bracciano residents) put up with all the inconveniences very patiently. It would have been nice if the couple had showed themselves to the public even for a brief moment - maybe at a window or from a balcony.

Well, it looks like not all the world was quite as captivated with the TomKat wedding as we thought.

Can’t say that I blame them. I can only imagine what an event like this would do to my small town.

They should have at least thanked the locals.

TomKat Wedding “shameful and an offence.”

The priest of the Italian town where Tom Cruise married Katie Holmes rang his church bells louder and for longer during the couple’s ceremony, to voice his displeasure of their un-Christian ceremony.

Fiorentini ordered the church bells be rung for longer during evening Mass. Fiorentini says, “It wasn’t a wedding at all. It was just for publicity. “A pope once stayed at the castle, now we have this. It’s shameful and an offence.”

Jessica Simpson - Bizarre Love Triangle

Ok, perhaps it’s not all that bizarre, but I do love that tune and I’m in the midst of an 80’s flashback, so deal with it!

Here’s the scoop…

There’s a whole lotta talk of a budding relationship between Dallas Cowboys QB - Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson has hit such a frenzy that an Internet gambling site is offering 3-2 odds they will soon be dating. Apparently this rumor started when Romo gave Simpson’s father tickets to a game in Arizona. With a “no comment” - a smile while walking away - the rumor mill became buzzed.

Now on the otherhand - Jessica is also again rumored to be with rocker John Mayer. Fatback and Collards has details of the pairs ’secret date’ at Paradise Cove Beach Cafe’ in Malibu, California. There’s links to all the date photos too!

Britney’s First Call After the Divorce

Life & Style reports today that Britney’s first call after the divorce (Nov. 7) was to no other than Madonna. Madonna has been a long-time friend and former mentor of Britney, and has, to say the least, a bit more experience.

The only problem that kept Britney from actually reaching Madonna, and probably the same problem that keeps me from reaching her, was that Britney did not have Madonna’s current number in London. What did she do? She called Liz Rosenberg, Madonna’s New York publicist and requested that Madonna contacts her.

KFed Slams Britney

It seems as if Kevin is stratring to break down and talk smack about Britney. This isn’t a good sign when a guy cannot keep his cool and slams his ex in public.

According to the the British newspaper Daily Star, during Kevin’s latest concert at The Norva in Virginia, he screamed "f**k Britney’ and giving the finger to the singer.

I am not sure who that was meant for, as Britney was not in the crowd but if this is Kevin’s definition of full time, he shouldn’t be surprised that no one wants to but tickets to his shows.

Britney is Considering a Sex Tape Giveaway as Offers Top $100 Million

While Fed-Ex is doing all he can to make a buck on the divorce’s back, Britney is doing all she can on her side to prevent it. One issue that had been discussed since the divorce is the existance os a sex tape featuring Britney Spears and KFed.

The Post Chronicle is reporting today that the latest offer to purchase Britney’s sex tape had topped $100 million in an offer made by David Hans Schmidt, a porn peddler responsible for the Fred Durst and recent Skreech sex tapes. Schmidt had doubled a previous offer of $50 million made by the British tabloid News of the World.

In a possible response to this havoc, I am hearing that there is a possibility that Britney will simply give away the tape to prevent Fed Ex from cashing in on it. The tape was made on the couple’s honeymoon two years ago and is rumored to be as long as 4 hours.

Britney Does Vegas with Paris Hilton

Britney Spears is getting used to single life and is catching up with some partying she had missed over her marriage. She picked Las Vegas as the spot and who can be a better guide to Las Vegas clubbing and single life than Paris Hilton?

A source said “Kevin has been partying and she feels she deserves to enjoy herself too” and as so, she was caught whipping off her satin trousers and parading around the Tryst club in only fishnet stockings and a silk blouse.

Jessica Alba is Too Sexy for Church

Jessica did so after 4 years of being a born-again Christian. She quit the faith, because she was accused of deliberately trying to attract men.

She said to the magazine:
Older men would hit on me and my youth pastor said it was because I was wearing provocative clothing, when I wasn’t.

"It just made me feel, like, if I was in anyway desirable to the opposite sex, that it was my fault, and it made me ashamed of my body and of being a woman."
